Classes / Screenwriting Program
Our screenwriting program has been developed to teach students how to take their ideas and expand them into scripts written specifically for the screen.
Students learn how to take their ideas from concept to completion. Through the process students will learn how to: pitch their ideas; write loglines, outlines and treatments; edit their scripts based on notes provided; write query letters; and more. The structured atmosphere provides students with an environment within which to develop their scripts in a way that simulates real-world production.
Our writing rooms provide a structured environment where you can learn the craft of screenwriting, develop your ideas in a constructive and critical environment, and produce work to help build your portfolio. The courses are divided into three main areas: craft and technique, major projects, and practical and experiential learning. The demands of the program will teach students how to focus and devote time to writing on a daily basis.
Subsequent courses will focus on specific topics such as original series development and pilot writing, and feature film script development through first draft completion. The Screenwriting program will feature guest instructors from writers, agents, and producers working in the industry.
Preparation for Screenwriting Labs:
The ITC Screenwriting Program focuses on screenwriting and putting skills to use for a professional career in comedy and entertainment.
Treat every writing session like a professional writing meeting:
- Don't be late. If you are late, don't waste time talking about why you were late.
- If you have a laptop, bring your laptop. If you don't, bring your printed scripts and a writing pad (yellow legal pads recommended).
- Bring a notebook, writing pad (yellow legal pads recommended) and a supply of pens, some black or blue, some red.
- Get used to criticism, taking notes and incorporating notes.
- Finish all assignments on time. Come finished and prepared to move to the next step.
- You are responsible for printing and bringing as many copies to the room as is required.
