IMPROV 201: Game of the Scene and Second Beats

Class Policies

Thank you for your interest in the Impatient Theatre Co. We are very excited to have you begin and/or continue your training with us. The ITC Training Center is committed to the principle that our students are the heart of our organization.

We believe in every student's right to learn and practice their craft in an open, non-threatening, creative environment. In order to achieve this, we just ask that you agree to some terms and conditions before you register for class.

AGE REQUIREMENT

You must be 18 years of age or older to sign up for this class. If you are 16-17 years old, you may take the class by having a parent or guardian contact us (416-238-7337, classes@impatient.ca). If you are under the age of 16, you cannot take class with us at this time.

ATTENDANCE

Improv is a group activity that is best learned in a creative and supportive learning environment. The best way to support yourself and your fellow classmates is to attend all eight (8) classes. Absences hinder your growth as an improviser and, in turn, affect your ability to support your classmates in class and on stage.

We understand that emergencies do happen, so absences are allowed, but to maintain class integrity we do not allow more than two (2) absences. Upon a third absence, you will automatically be removed from the class. Removal from class means you cannot attend any more classes or participate in the student show. Once removed, if you wish to continue your training, you will have to repeat the level.

For information about making up missed classes, please see our make-up policy.

MAKE-UP POLICY

Your registration and payment are a promise to attend all eight classes and to make up any classes that you miss; there are no refunds for missed classes. Students are expected to attend all classes, but we understand that emergencies do happen, so two (2) absences are allowed. Because we are committed to our students we allow you to do make-up classes when they are available.

-- Make-ups are not mandatory.

-- Make-ups do not cancel out missed classes. For example, if you miss three (3) classes and did one make-up, you will still be removed from the class.

-- Make-ups are NOT guaranteed. This is to limited class capacity and possible scheduling conflicts.

-- Make-ups will NOT be schedule for class #1 or #8.

-- Students will be placed in the class number they missed. If you miss class #4, you will be placed in another class #4.

-- If we do not have the class you missed available, you won't make up the class.

-- As soon as you miss a class, or know you will be missing a class you should CALL us (416-238-7337) to schedule a make-up. Make-ups are only scheduled over the phone.

-- Make-ups will only be scheduled while your class is in session; this is why it is important to call as soon as you know you will miss your class.

-- We do not schedule make-ups for missed make-ups. If you schedule a make-up and can no longer make it, you must give 48-hours notice if you want to try to reschedule. If you do not give 48-hours notice, we will not be able to reschedule your make-up.

Do not show up to a class without our consent. If you show up to an unscheduled make-up it will be considered inappropriate conduct and could result in removal from your class and/or the school.

SHOW REQUIREMENTS

As a student it is important for you to see longform improv in action. In order to move on to the next level, one of your requirements is to see two (2) improv shows at the ITC. Both shows must be seen before class #8. If you do not see your two show requirement by class #8, you are still allowed to participate in your class show, but you will NOT be allowed to move on to the next level.

LATENESS

Prompt attendance is expected from all students. Students are encouraged to make it to their class on time so they can participate in warm-up exercises before the class begins working on performing scenes and other exercises. Arriving late requires the instructor to explain exercises and concepts again and is considered too disruptive to be allowed.

Exceptions will NOT be made. If you show up late and beg your teacher to let you in, this is even more disruptive and is considered inappropriate conduct which could result in removal from the school. (See Code of Conduct below for more information.)

LEAVING EARLY

If a student leaves class more than 15 minutes before the official end time, this will be considered an absence. Students are expected to be present for the entire class.

SWITCHING CLASSES

If your class has not started and you want to switch into a different section that has also not started, you may do so. Once your class has started, you can not switch into a different section.

CODE OF CONDUCT

The ITC Training Center believes that all of our students have the right to learn and practice their craft in an open, non-threatening, creative environment. In order to achieve this environment, students are asked to agree to certain ground rules in regards to class conduct before enrolling in class.

Inappropriate class conduct includes, but is not limited to:

-- Consumption of drugs or alcohol during class.

-- Wanton destruction of physical class space, which includes but is not limited to walls, chairs, lights and doors.

-- Inappropriate verbal, physical or sexual conduct with other students or the class instructor.

-- Bringing uninvited guests to class.

Additionally, students are asked to help foster a creative and supportive learning environment without distractions. Students are asked to support their fellow students in class by abstaining from eating, reading or writing text messages, using mobile phones and PDAs, or talking while fellow classmates or teachers are talking.

Inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated and will result in suspension and removal from class.

Refunds in the event of termination follow the same guidelines as voluntary withdrawals.

COMPETENCY AND PLACEMENT

Participation in, or completion of, classes does not guarantee placement on any ITC team. Students are not guaranteed promotion onto the next class level. Promotion is contingent on attendance, seeing shows and a demonstration of course concepts through application during in-class participation. No student is guaranteed an opportunity to perform.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE

If you have not participated in an ITC class within the past year, you should contact us to see which level you will be re-admitted in.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY

If you destroy any property at the ITC Training Center, whether it is by accident or on purpose, you will be liable for the cost of repair.

TEACHER ATTENDANCE

ITC reserves the right to replace any teacher at anytime with another equally qualified teacher without notice.

LIABILITY

You agree that you choose to voluntarily participate in the class with full knowledge that the activity may be hazardous to yourself and/or your property. You voluntarily assume full responsibility for any risks of loss, property damage or personal injury, including death, that may be sustained as a result of participating in the activity. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Impatient Productions, and its employees, members and volunteers for any loss, liability, damage or costs, including court costs and attorney's fees, that may occur as a result of your participation in the activity. We are not responsible for lost or stolen property.

CANCELLATION

The ITC reserves the right to postpone or cancel a class if they do not reach a minimum number of students. Fees incurred by student for travel, lodging, etc. will not be reimbursed by the ITC. The Impatient Theatre Co. reserves the right to accept or deny any individual's application.

REGISTRATION IS NON-REFUNDABLE AND NON-TRANSFERABLE

Only students who have registered and paid will be allowed in the class. Due to our limited class sizes, placement isn't guaranteed until payment has been received in full. Payment for all classes must be received prior to the first day of class. Registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. For extenuating circumstances you can contact us by email or phone.

Students are always welcome to contact the training centre at classes@impatient.ca or 416-238-7337.
